Happy Holidays 2007

The kids have taken over. Yes, Andy and Susan have turned the holiday letter over to us, Alex and Michael, and we're going to take full advantage. Here's a photo of us working on the letter:

Alex (left) says, "the fewer clothes, the more creative I am." Michael (right) is more comfortable fully clothed.

So what's up with Michael and Alex, you ask?

Well, here's the update. We're now almost three. Our habits include driving our parents crazy and ... well, now that we think about it, that's about it. It doesn't sound like our lives are busy, but trust us when we say it's a full-time job.

Here are a few pictures of Michael:

Alex: OK, now let's put in some pictures of me.
Michael: Why? We're identical. There's really no need to include photos of you.
Fistfight ensues. A bloodied Michael finally agrees to put in a few photos of Alex:

Max and Kasper

Below is a photo of our two weims. Kasper, on the left, is wishing you a happy holiday season. Max, on the right, is the very epitome of insouciance.

(click on the image for a larger picture) Dad says this picture is disturbingly similar to the cover of a Pet Shop Boys album (that he secretly thinks "rocks").

Max has recovered from a pit bull bite he got a few weeks ago. Ever since that time, however, while officially abhorring Michael Vick, Max is secretly ambivalent about the whole Vick thing.

Kasper has some hip/back problems and has to keep his weight down to a trim 72 lbs. If there's too much "junk in the trunk," hip pain is the result. But it's a challenge for our parents to keep his weight down because he tends to binge. Just last week, we went out to lunch and returned to find that Kasper has polished off an entire pumpkin pie while we were gone (he requested that, next time we leave him alone with a pumpkin pie, we also leave a tub of cool whip out). So his weight tends to yo-yo: he's fat, he's thin, he's fat, he's thin ... kinda like Oprah.

Mom and dad

Here are some action photos of Andy (flying a kite, with Michael) and Susan (at a petting zoo, with Michael):

One day, as we made a giant pile of toys in the middle of the living room for about the tenth time that day, we looked over and saw mom sticking her head in the oven. We weren't too worried because it's electric, but she'd made her point: she needed a bit more time away from us. So we enrolled in a "mother's day out" for a few hours a day, three days per week. Mom now looks a lot more like she looked in photos taken before we were born.

Dad is still trying to save the world, although he says it's not looking too good. He is often quite pessimistic that the world will pull its act together soon enough to head off the worst effects of climate change. He doesn't think that enough people realize just how bad climate change might be.

Dad says that, by the time we're his age, 2047, the world might be an entirely different planet. He says we should try to enjoy the great outdoors as much as possible today.

Otherwise, dad's had a pretty interesting year. He really enjoyed teaching ATMO 201, an introductory atmospheric sciences class. He also did a briefing on Capitol Hill, testified twice in the Texas Legislature, was on NPR a few times, visited Al Gore's climate boot camp, was in a cheesy commercial about climate change, and has a wikipedia page, which he tells us is mostly wrong.

Well, that about sums it up. We thought we would leave you with one last adorable photo of the two of us:

We hope you had a great 2007 and we wish you a joyous and prosperous 2008.
